Congratulations Maggie's! Charity partner celebrates 30 years - Kathy Morgan attends celebration
Updated: 2d

I had the privilege of visiting Maggie's in Sutton for their 30th anniversary celebrations on Thursday 15th October 2026, and what a truly remarkable space with amazing volunteers and staff !
Maggie's is the vision of one lady Maggie Keswick Jencks, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1988 which re-occurred in 1993, and her husband Charles. Inspired by world famous architects together they designed each centre different to the last in vibrant colours and styles, making the buildings feel warm and welcoming, with cosy nooks and crannies to relax in.
Spending time in clinical hospital corridors inspired them to create spaces which could offer practical and emotional support in a relaxing environment . Maggie sadly passed away in 1995 aged 54, but not without inspiring the growth of centres across the UK and internationally including Hong Kong and Tokyo
Maggie's Sutton is based in the grounds of The Royal Marsden Hospital, and offers a no-appointment drop-in space for families to be together, or individuals to just come in and have a moment alone.
There are trained cancer support specialists on-site with expert knowledge ready to listen over a cuppa, and advisers who can support with benefits and practicalities.
Fundraising is key to keeping the service going and their gratitude was evident during the real- life experience presentations, and speeches thanking local support including the Rotary Club of Banstead & Sutton Nonsuch.
