BANSTEAD & SUTTON NONSUCH ROTARY CHARITY WALK (8.5 miles)

Our charity walks have been a great success, raising many thousands for walkers’ favourite charities.
Sponsors are able to give online or using sponsor forms in the old-fashioned way. For those who find the task of getting sponsors a little too onerous, some just choose to walk and make their own donation.

We are delighted with the response to our walks when there are so many sponsored events - each competing for the pounds in our pockets. However, we have been making sure we get the word out and about by using social media and local press to remind everyone about our Charity Walk.
The walk is fully marshalled so that road crossings are safe. Once the organisation is in place, the more walkers we have, the better we love it

YOUTH COMPETITIONS
Banstead & Sutton Nonsuch Rotary works with local schools and youngsters take part every year in our youth competitions which in most cases take the form of local and regional heats followed by a national final. The majority are categorised into junior, intermediate and advanced age groups.
Young Chef
Cooking amongst young people is a valuable life skill. Sponsored by a local school contestants prepare and present a meal within a pre-set budget and time limit, which is judged by an expert.
Youth Speaks
We encourage speaking and presentation skills in young people and this competition showcases superb quality speakers.

Young Carers' Pantomime
Each Christmastime, we take a group of young carers to the pantomime at The Epsom Playhouse. Young carers perform a crucial role in our local community, assisting family members or friends with daily tasks, a very demanding role for young people to take on. The pantomime provides a welcome break to have some fun!

BANSTEAD VILLAGE FAIR

Banstead Village Day with the Village Fair is held on the first Saturday of July each year in The Orchard in Banstead High Street (In front of All Saints Church). Show your support and have fun!
This is a 'traditional' Village Fair organised by Banstead & Sutton Nonsuch Rotary with over 30 local organisations and charities running their own stalls or sideshows to raise funds. This includes attractions such as cakes, preserves, books, crafts, bric-a-brac, tombola, competitions and much more. The fair is an opportunity for charities and voluntary organisations to promote themselves and raise funds for a great variety of projects, and for members of the public to enjoy themselves and contribute. The Fair is opened by the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead.

MONTHLY SPEAKERS

Banstead & Sutton Nonsuch Rotary normally invites two speakers a month to meetings, one from a charity, and the other on matters of general interest and intend to run several purely social and fun events each year as usual.
Banstead & Sutton Nonsuch Rotary is a very friendly Club and is always pleased to welcome non-members to their meetings.

CHRISTMAS COLLECTIONS

Santa will be on his sleigh, with music, and collecting for local charities in December each year assisted by Banstead & Sutton Nonsuch Rotary. In addition to visiting the streets around Banstead, Nork, Tattenham and Tadworth over three weeks , Santa also visits ASDA, Waitrose and Tesco.

Additionally, a large Christmas Tree is put on display in Banstead High Street and smaller trees are donated to local schools so the pupils can enjoy the season to the maximum!
The monies collected are distributed to local Groups and Charities. These include Youth Groups including Scouts and Guides; Hospices; Cancer Research; and a wide range of Community Groups including Food Banks, Talking Newspapers, Home Care; and Support for the sick, elderly and disabled.

FOOD BANK

Club members regularly donate goods to a local Food Bank. We have been supporting this important charity since the beginning of the pandemic.

INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE

Annually, Banstead & Sutton Nonsuch members and guests enjoy exchanges with our long-standing twin clubs: the Rotary Club of Meppen (based in Northwest Germany near the Dutch border) and Louviers Le Neubourg, French Rotarians based in Normandy near Rouen. Once every two years, we visit and stay with their Club members and the following year, they come and stay with us for a long weekend.
BEFRIENDING PROJECT

Members of our club volunteer as befrienders for the project run by the Volunteer Centre Sutton. It’s an excellent programme which addresses the growing problem of loneliness in our community.
Our volunteers spend a couple of hours each week chatting, which is much appreciated by people who sadly have very little social interaction. It gives them a weekly lift, which is so important for mental well-being.
SENIORS OUT

Every year, our club members invite elderly members of various local Day Centres to a day out in the country.
The most popular venue is the lovely house and grounds at Polesden Lacey. This National Trust property has plenty to offer, including a great deal of local history as well as the attractive gardens and spectacular views. The residents are accompanied by our members who assist those who are not quite so mobile as they used to be.
SOCIAL EVENTS & WALKS

Social activities of Banstead & Sutton Nonsuch include regularly inviting members and guests to a walking tour of various parts of historic London. Led by a member with encyclopaedic knowledge of the hidden gems of our capital city. Naturally, at some stage of any tour,
members rest with a meal as well as the necessary stop for coffee.

We also enjoy meeting up to prepare our projects over snacks at members' homes.
Monthly pub catch-ups are enjoyable for meeting new people, social networking, and making new friendships. All are welcome, get in touch.
