Banstead & Sutton Nonsuch Rotary Club was delighted to welcome Honorary Rotarian Dr Patel for what proved to be one of the most memorable speaker evenings in recent memory.

Over the course of his talk, Dr Patel took us on a vivid journey across three continents, from the Indian subcontinent to sub-Saharan Africa, and ultimately to the United Kingdom, tracing a life shaped by medicine, adventure, and an unyielding commitment to those around him. His story was not simply one of professional achievement, though that was considerable. It was a portrait of a man who met the world’s most challenging circumstances with skill, resolve, and an enviable lightness of spirit.

From a distinguished medical family, Dr Patel has seen his dedication to the profession echoed in the next generation, his own children having followed him into medicine, continuing a legacy of service that spans decades and borders. It is the kind of lineage that speaks not just to talent, but to values passed down with intention.

What made the evening so remarkable was the blend of substance and warmth that Dr P brought to every chapter of his story. There were moments of genuine challenge and moments of extraordinary success, told with a candour and humour that had the room thoroughly engaged throughout.

We were especially honoured that Dr Patel's daughters joined us for the occasion, present to hear their father share a heritage that clearly runs deep, and that enriched the room immeasurably.

Dr Patel, on behalf of everyone at Banstead & Sutton Nonsuch Rotary, thank you. Your story reminded us that a life in service lived fully, across borders and generations, is one of the finest things a person can offer the world.

We look forward to welcoming you back.
