This is a fast moving, data driven, energetically delivered, visual presentation with plenty of graphs, graphics and headlines, examining the evidence that demonstrates, across the world, people are living longer yet, in most countries, the population is decreasing.

The presentation starts by viewing the number of telegrams sent to UK Centenarians by the monarch over the last 100 years, then moves onto examining life tables used by actuaries to show the dramatic improvement in life expectancy in the UK and a selection of countries across the world.

The seminar explains and introduces the concept of population pyramids which are then used to review the composition of the populations in several countries including the UK, some of which are facing an existential threat from a reduction in new, young citizens and coping with a larger, more elderly population.

Several explanations are discussed about why there is such a consistent and marked decline in the number of babies born, noting the correlation between a country’s economic growth and its fertility rate.

The seminar moves onto to reviewing recognised ways in which individuals can live longer, focussing on what actions a person can take to reduce their likelihood of being affected by Alzheimer’s or dementia and some of the other main causes of death.

The presentation concludes with an interactive group participation of the Flamingo 20 second challenge. The talk duration can be between 30-50 minutes depending on requirements. It can also be split into two separate talks.
