What a truly delightful afternoon spent at such a warm and welcoming cream tea, hosted for the young carers at The Royal Alexandra and Albert School (RAAS)

Set within the stunning grounds of The Royal Alexandra and Albert School, an all-through co-educational boarding school near Reigate, Surrey, the afternoon was made even more special by a tour of the beautiful estate. The setting itself is a reflection of the care, heritage, and opportunity the school provides, and I would wholeheartedly encourage anyone to visit, see it for themselves, and support the incredible work taking place there.
It was a real pleasure to attend and connect with so many wonderful people, from the Councillor Zelanie Cooper, for Reigate & Banstead, to dedicated heads of school, teachers and governors, all united by a shared commitment to supporting young people and strengthening our community.

It was also particularly wonderful to hear the Head of School speak so highly and passionately about the students, a true testament to the culture, pride, and belief that runs through the school community.
But the real highlight? The students!
To the incredible young carers, you are nothing short of inspiring. Your resilience, compassion, and quiet strength are deeply moving. The way you balance so much, with such grace and maturity, is a powerful reminder of the strength within our young people. It was an absolute privilege to meet you, hear your stories, and celebrate all that you do, you are truly seen, valued, and appreciated.
And a heartfelt note of admiration to those observing Eid, who still joined us with such poise and discipline despite fasting, a beautiful reflection of your character and spirit. Eid Mubarak to you all.
A special mention as well to the collaboration initiated by Rotarian Nishma Acharya, also a Governor at RAAS and lead RYLA Rotary Representative, a partnership that already feels strong, purposeful, and full of promise. It is exactly the kind of connection Rotary is proud to champion, and one we look forward to continuing to grow and nurture.

The work this school brings to the community is impactful, heartfelt, and far-reaching — and it deserves every bit of recognition.
Here’s to meaningful partnerships, inspiring young people, and many more cups of tea together.
